ANDERSON, Calif. — Chris Eggleston waited. And waited. And then he made his move.
The Erie, Colorado, driver muscled his No. 99 NAPA Filters/H20 Fire Protection Toyota past James Bickford with five laps remaining and claimed the checkered flag in the Bill Schmitt Memorial 150 presented by Lithia Toyota and NAPA Auto Parts at Shasta Speedway.
Eggleston Grabs Shasta Win With Late Pass
WATERFORD, Conn. — Ryan Preece continued his mastery of bullrings.
The 24-year-old Berlin, Connecticut, driver picked up his 12th career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory Saturday night in the Mr. Rooter 161 at Waterford-New London Speedbowl.
It was Preece’s second win at the Speedbowl and seventh tour win on a track that is a third-mile or smaller. He also has a win on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour on the quarter-mile at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Scott Heckert proved he can master an oval as well as a road-course, and he did it on one of the most historic tracks in NASCAR.
The 21-year-old from Ridgefield, Connecticut, earned his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory Saturday night in the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 at Bowman Gray Stadium.
Heckert In His Own Class At Bowman Gray
ANDERSON, Calif. — David Mayhew set the tone early.
The second car out in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West qualifying Saturday at Shasta Speedway, Mayhew earned his 12th Coors Light Pole Award and first of the season.
The Atascadero, California, driver posted a lap of 15.873 seconds (75.524 mph) in his No. 17 MMI Racing/Ron’s Rear Ends/Pour House Chevrolet around the .375-mile track to take the top spot for Saturday night’s Bill Schmitt Memorial 150 presented by Lithia Toyota and NAPA Auto Parts.
QUALIFYING: Mayhew Nets Shasta Pole
WATERFORD, Conn. – Fastest in practice this afternoon, Donny Lia backed it up in Coors Light Pole Award qualifying as he earned the top starting spot for tonight’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Mr. Rooter 161 at New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
Lia, from Jericho, New York, posted a fast lap of 13.965 seconds (96.670 mph) around the .375-mile oval Saturday evening for his 21st career pole, and second in a row in this event.
QUALIFYING Twice As Nice For Lia
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Scott Heckert led an HScott Motorsports With Justin Marks sweep in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East qualifying Saturday at Bowman Gray Stadium.
Heckert earned his first Coors Light Pole Award of the season and fourth of his career, and will lead the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 to green Saturday night.
Heckert’s No. 34 Project Lifesaver Chevrolet took the top spot with a lap of 14.445 seconds (62.305 mph) around the quarter-mile flat track.
QUALIFYING: Heckert Tops At Bowman Gray
WATERFORD, Conn. – The only two-time New London-Waterford Speedbowl winner in tonight’s Mr. Rooter 161 field has a fast start on attaining win No. 3.
Donny Lia posted a fast lap of 14.031 seconds (96.216 mph) around the venerable .375-mile oval in his No. 8 Sypher Construction/Bardahl Chevrolet to top the 33-car NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field Saturday evening.
Lia’s previous wins at the Speedbowl came in 2005 and 2006 in his family-owned car.

Mayhew’s lap in his No. 17 MMI Racing/Ron’s Rear Ends/Pour House Chevrolet came in the 18th of 19 laps he ran in the final 30-minute session.
PRACTICE: Mayhew Saves Best For Last
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Scott Heckert and Austin Hill hope history holds form at Bowman Gray Stadium.
The two posted the fastest practice times Saturday in preparation for the evening’s NASCAR Hall of Fame 150, and will look for front row starting spots in qualifying.
Three of the four race NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race winners at Bowman Gray have started on the front row.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Divisions II-V are designed to offer novice competitors a chance to learn how to race, work on the cars and create a ladder system at each NASCAR sanctioned track. Columbus Motor Speedway track co-owner, general manager and promoter Jeff Nuckles has struck gold with his Crazy Compact Division.
The division is a cheap and affordable avenue for drivers to enter the sport of NASCAR at the local level and is classified in Division IV in the Whelen All-American Series program.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Tim Brown is no stranger to records.
The nine-time Bowman Gray Stadium champion is on the verge of adding another accomplishment to his already impressive resume this weekend. Last Saturday night, Brown won the first of two scheduled 25-lap features for the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I, the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. It tied Brown for the all-time record with Junior Miller for Modified division wins at the track with 73.
